Frequently asked questions

How do the two devices connect?

Open NoteFerry on the receiving device to show its connection code, then scan it with NoteFerry on the phone. The two devices must be able to reach each other; use the same Wi-Fi, a reachable local network, or a phone hotspot that permits device-to-device connections. Everyday transfer needs no data cable. Bluetooth transfer is not supported.

Do I need an account?

Local capture, pairing, receiving and Plus purchases through the phone app store do not require a NoteFerry account. Receiving is free; each phone can successfully deliver 30 new media items per month for free. Plus is monthly, yearly or lifetime.

Does my media go through the cloud?

No. Current builds transfer directly between the two devices; media stays on the capture and receiving devices.

Which apps can I use it with?

Use it with apps that accept the relevant media through drag and drop or paste, including notes, documents, presentations and creative tools. Formats and actions vary by app; see the compatibility table for tested combinations.

Can I record video and audio?

The phone app records video and voice notes and sends them to the tray. Whether a destination app accepts, plays and saves them depends on that row of the compatibility table.

Can the phone and the receiver be from different ecosystems?

That is exactly the situation NoteFerry is built for. Tested combinations are the ones stated on the compatibility and download pages; anything not listed is still being verified.

The item does not appear in the tray

Confirm the phone is connected to the receiver you are using and keep NoteFerry open on both. Check that the two devices' networks can reach each other, then show the receiver's connection code and connect again.

Nothing appears after dragging, or it is gone after reopening

Open an editable page in the destination app and retry with one photo. Receiving an item in the tray does not mean the app accepted the drop, and an item missing after reopening has not been saved. In both cases keep the tray original and check the destination app's save status.
